2016 vintage has kicked off in the Margaret River! Our winemaker, Luke Skeer, comments: At this point vintage 2016 is looking very strong, we have had perfect mild days for ripening, and cold nights - exactly what we want for picking our whites. The reds are still at least two weeks away from being ready. The challenge has been finding enough hand pickers to pick our Chardonnay, and getting everyone to work on time when the surf is good! We have had a very diverse and experienced cellar crew from France, Chili, Argentina, America, the Barossa, Coonawarra and, of course, locals. All have brought diverse skills and knowledge, but above all passion for good wine. We are all learning a lot from each other and having a lot of fun along the way. It's still very early but what we have crushed - and what we have seen out in the vineyards - looks very promising. All of Devil’s Lair Chardonnay looks amazing, slowly building flavour with balanced natural acidity. The reds have just finished veraison, but even at this early stage look very exciting!
